Welcome to My Website!

Welcome to my online presence where you will find information about my vita, research, and writing!

Benjamin Zyla currently is Visiting Scholar in the Department of Government at Harvard University and Associate Professor (tenured) of International Affairs in the School of International Development & Global Studies at the University of Ottawa.

After having won the 2017 Young Researcher Award of uOttawa’s Faculty of Social Sciences, he spent some time as Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study (Exzellenzcluster) at the University of Konstanz in Germany.

At the University of Ottawa's Centre for International Policy Studies (CIPS) he helps to coordinate the Fragile States Network (FSRN). He is also Senior Fellow with the Austrian Institute for Europe and Security Policy (AIES), and Senior Researcher with the Canadian Network for Research on Terrorism, Security, and Society (TSAS).

His research on international (security) institutions, peacebuilding, and foreign policy has appeared in leading outlets in Canada and abroad. In particular, he focuses on collective action problems in international organizations (e.g. UN, NATO, EU), as well as the politics and effectiveness of international peace-and statebuilding operations, and foreign policy issues. He is interested in supervising students in these areas.

Prior to coming to uOttawa, he held the prestigious Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) post-doctoral fellowship at Queen's University (Canada), and was a visiting fellow at the Europe Centre at Stanford University (USA).

Benjamin sits on the board of the Research Committees on Security, Conflict & Democratization and European Unification of the International Political Science Association.
